Why Zen Planner Doesn't Allow Email Attachments

We know that attachments are a common feature in most email services, but there are a number of reasons why attaching files to bulk emails can cause problems.  

  • Many ISPs and end-users block emails above a certain size. Attachments can increase the size of your email raising the risk of your email getting blocked.
  • Most content and virus scanning programs see attachments sent through any bulk mailing service, even Zen Planner, as a potential security threat, and either block the attachment or the email entirely. So a majority of attachments may not reach your students.
  • Sending a copy of a file to each recipient takes a lot of bandwidth, which can get pretty expensive.  

When you host your files online for students to access & download, you are actually helping to keep Zen Planner costs down and improve the delivery rates of your emails.  

 

How to Share Files with Your Students

There are actually quite a few ways that you can share your files with your students without using email attachments.  You can post your attachments on your company website, use one of several file hosting services, or if you're using an email marketing service they will probably host your files for you.  


Hosting Your Own Files

Super simple & easy if you already have a company website.  All you have to do is post your attachment on your website then include a link to it in your email.


File Hosting Service

There are numerous file hosting services available, and many of them are free.  We recommend Dropbox because it is the easiest way to share files from your computer online.  Once you're set up with Dropbox, you just need to copy your file into a special public folder on your computer and Dropbox uploads it to their public servers automatically.  It's a quick & simple process to generate a link to that file to share with your students.


Email Marketing Service

If you're using an email marketing service (like MailChimp) they will usually not allow attachments for the same reasons Zen Planner doesn't.  We recommend using MailChimp which can be integrated with your Zen Planner database and they offer free hosting of your files.  Also, MailChimp is free when you have 2,000 or fewer subscribers and you can send up to 12,000 emails a month.
